Wolves head coach Nuno Espirito Santo said Diogo Jota “is going to the right place” after confirming that the player will join Premier League champions Liverpool.
Forward from Portugal Jota will move to Anfield for a fee that could be as high as 45 million pounds., with young defender Ki-Jana Hoever in the opposite direction.
Nuno believes that the deal is positive for all parties and insists that the 23-year-old leaves Molineux with his blessing.
“Diogo is amazing and everyone knows the relationship we built over four seasons,” said Nuno.
“In three particular seasons here at Wolves, what Diogo did for us is absolutely fantastic. I think things happen when, naturally, they should.
“I think Diogo is going to the right place and we wish him all the best, knowing that he will never be forgotten, especially by our fans, all the memorable moments that Diogo gave.
“As a club, we made the deal because we believe it is good for everyone.
“In this case you have to attend to the player’s will. I know Diogo was very happy here, but it’s normal for players to like to face new challenges in their careers, so I think joining Liverpool is a good move for him. “
Jota joined Wolves, initially on loan, from Atlético de Madrid in 2017.
He helped the club win the Sky Bet Championship title in its first season and played a role in them becoming an established top-flight team since the move became permanent, scoring 44 goals in 131 total appearances.
Nuno hopes to quickly recruit a direct replacement after he has identified an unnamed target.
“We still have to adjust the template. It is clear that we have to better balance our squad, “he said.
“We have already identified the objectives, we know the player we want to bring in and now we hope that our plan continues as before.
“Jeff (Shi, Wolves CEO) knows who our target is and where we have to work on our team.”
