A teenager died this afternoon after being hit by a truck in the city center.

Gardai is currently at the scene of the incident that occurred shortly after 3:30 pm this afternoon on Sheares Street.

The teenager, who was a pedestrian, was taken to Our Lady of Mercy Hospital, Cork, where he was later pronounced dead.

The truck driver was unharmed and the road is currently closed with local detours in place.

The scene is preserved for a full forensic and technical examination by Garda forensic collision investigators.

Gardaí is calling for witnesses to this collision to come forward. Gardaí also attracts road users who may have camera images (including dash cam) and who were traveling in the area between 3:15 pm and 3:45 pm so that Gardaí could access these images.
