A busy Wexford road is closed this morning after a pedestrian was killed in a fatal accident.
The N25 in New Ross has been closed since 9:50 p.m. last night when a pedestrian was hit by a car.
The 36-year-old man was rushed to Waterford University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
The driver of the car was unhurt.
Several units of the emergency services remained at the scene late at night with diversions in place.
Garda forensic teams are on the scene this morning conducting an investigation and the road is expected to be closed for several more hours.
A garda spokesperson said: “The Gardaí in New Ross is asking for witnesses following a fatal traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian in Co Wexford on Tuesday, September 1, 2020.
“At approximately 9.50 pm, Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the N25 in Portersland near New Ross.
“A 36-year-old pedestrian was injured when he was hit by a car. He was taken by ambulance to Waterford University Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead. The driver of the car was unharmed.
“The scene is currently being preserved for examination by Garda forensic collision investigators and the road at the crash site is closed. There are local traffic diversions. The local coroner has been notified and arrangements are being made for a post-examination. mortem “.
“Gardaí is asking for witnesses to come forward. They are particularly attractive to road users with camera footage (including the dash cam) along the route at the time to make it available to them.
