Former Debenhams staff entered the Patrick St facility overnight and are organizing a sit-in in an attempt to improve the layoff package.

Former workers have also taken over Dublin’s Henry St store, as they made it clear that they will not accept an offer that was presented over the weekend.

In a statement this morning, the group said they only want a four-week pay package for each year they have worked, calling last week’s offer an “insult.”

Valerie Conlon of Patrick St said: “Four weeks of layoff per year of service is a very modest demand, but the offer that was made last week fell short of it.

“Instead of providing two weeks per year of service in addition to the legal minimum, the offer provides an additional payment of one day per year of service. That is a real insult.”

Carol Ann Bridgeman of Mahon Point said: “Debenhams workers who have been picketing for the past 150 days are stepping up the fight for a decent settlement. Our fight is a fight for all workers and we call on the public for us to support “.
