The Department of Health will announce the latest Covid-19 cases and deaths in Ireland tonight.

Medical Director Dr. Tony Holohan will brief the media and public at 5:30 pm tonight on the latest situation.

We will have all the updates from the CMO and the latest figures here throughout the night.

It comes after an increase of 429 cases on Sunday with great concern that the situation could deteriorate considerably before Christmas.

Speaking Monday morning, Taoiseach Micheal Martin said there was some concern after Sunday’s number.

Martin said Ireland “may well be considering some additional restrictions in January.”

He added: “The most effective response to this is our personal behavior,” but argued that the growing number of cases in Europe means that Ireland is not an outlier when it comes to the virus.
