Some limited Christmas street trading could be allowed in Dublin city center this year after tonight’s talks.
The city council had announced a ban on seasonal traders on Henry Street and Moore Street due to Covid-19 restrictions.
This was criticized as unfair by local representatives because other stores had to be opened alongside drinks and cookouts.
There were talks tonight featuring Henry St merchants, the Irish Organization, Market and Street Traders (IOMST), Mayor Hazel Chu, council officials and councilors.
Later, Sinn Féin Councilor Janice Boylan said that “there is a possibility that very limited trade will be allowed, but it will not be like in previous years.”
He said Dublin City Council will be in contact with all traders to discuss the options that have been suggested, but this is all dependent on future restrictions.
It is understood that the new plan could involve fewer stalls and those to be distributed to the surrounding streets.
