Limerick hurling team change revealed for Munster v Waterford final

The LIMERICK team has been confirmed for the final of the Munster Senior Hurling Championship on Sunday.

There is a change in the team that defeated Tipperary: David Reidy in the team instead of Darragh O’Donovan.

Reidy has played 10 times for Limerick in the championship since his debut in 2015, but Sunday will be his first outing after impressing from the bench in Munster SHC’s victories over Tipperary and Clare in recent weeks.

The Dromin-Athlacca man joined Limerick’s senior panel in 2013 when he was still in the under-21 rankings and now eight seasons later comes his first senior championship outing. His only season outside of Limerick’s ranks was 2017 – he played with Kildare in the Christy Ring Cup while teaching in the county, where Joe Quaid was the manager at the time.

In the spring, Reidy started four and played in all five group games in the Allianz League.

The 28-year-old enters the wing as a center forward with Cian Lynch in midfield – Kyle Hayes remains at the wing.

There is also a welcome return among the replacements for Richie English.

John Kiely’s men in green will face Waterford this November 15 at Semple Stadium in Thurles at 4pm.

Limerick is bidding to retain the Munster SHC for the seventh time and for the first time since 1981.

A senior Limerick team led by John Kiely has faced Waterford in competitive action five times and the men in green and white are yet to be defeated: Declan Hannon, Nickie Quaid, Graeme Mulcahy and Gearoid Hegarty started the previous five games.

Hannon, Quaid and Mulcahy are ready to start their fourth Munster SHC final.

Quaid is scheduled to start in his 23rd consecutive championship game for The Treaty County.

Captain Hannon will make his 40th appearance in the championship on Sunday. On the other hand, Dan Morrissey and Cian Lynch will make their 25th appearance in the championship, while Tom Morrissey and Gearoid Hegarty will be in the 20th championship.

Sunday’s final will be the 19th time John Kiely has moved Limerick to the senior championship and goalkeeper Quaid and Kyle Hayes are the only players to have started the previous 18 games under his current leadership.

Meanwhile, coach Liam Cahill has revealed an unchanged Waterford side from the side that defeated Cork in their semi-final. Austin Gleeson is selected as a full forward, but it’s a lot like waiting until 4pm Sunday to determine 100% starting roles.
