Lidl Ireland has been forced to stop the sale of four highly anticipated items due to dangerous “huge queues” outside its stores.

The Irish retailer informed the public through its Facebook page that they would no longer sell the summer specials for fear of customer safety.

They described the demand for the items: a Crivit Outdoor trampoline; a Smoby Garden slide; a Gemini swing and a wooden kitchen like “unprecedented”

In a statement, the retail giant said: “At Lidl, the safety of our colleagues and clients is our number one priority.

“We have implemented numerous measures in all of our stores in the past two months to ensure that appropriate social distancing can be achieved.

“Due to the exceptional and unprecedented demand for certain items in the past few days, we have seen queues outside our stores prior to opening.

“These queues have made social distancing externally more challenging.”

Lidl has had to stop selling these items.

They stated: “For this reason, we have made the decision to cancel the following items that were to be sold on Monday, May 4:

Crivit Outdoor Trampoline

Smoby Garden slide

Gemini swings

Wooden kitchen

They added: “We apologize to all customers who were disappointed by this decision, but we feel that the safety of our team and customers should be prioritized at this difficult time. We will put these items up for sale at a future date.”
