It’s starting to look a lot like Christmas in Leo Varadkar’s flat when he shared a festive photo.

The Tanaiste and his partner Matt Barrett posed by the beautiful tree at their home in Dublin.

On Instagram, the Fine Gael frontman said: “I have 16 years in my flat but I have never had a Christmas tree before.

“I was never home. This year has been different. A positive glimpse of the pandemic.”

State Minister Josepha Madigan commented on the post, saying: “Beautiful tree.”

Another supporter said: “Nice you have time this year. No job should take that away from both of you. “

It comes just days after Varadkar said he believes the pandemic will end in 2021 and Ireland could return to normal by the summer.

He thinks that with vaccines, rapid tests, and all the knowledge that experts have now, next year will be significantly better.

But the vaccine will have to be in place for two months before it makes a difference.

The Tanaiste told Newstalk Breakfast: “I can only give you a guess. With the vaccine, with the massive testing, and with the best knowledge of how to treat and prevent this virus, I think the pandemic will end in 2021.

“We would really have to give the vaccine for about two months before we see that it really makes a difference. It’s a two dose vaccine.”
