Leeds Player scores: Leeds United 0 – 1 Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Leeds United produced a good first half before their performance waned and they went away with a 1-0 loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers at Elland Road. A shot from Raúl Jiménez that took a massive deflection from Kalvin Phillips and gave the Wolves all three points.

Leeds had the best of the first half but couldn’t create a clear chance, Rodrigo had the best after hitting the ball in a corner. The Wolves were hardly a threat, but they had their biggest half chance in injury time when Daniel Podence had an effort stopped by Illan Meslier.

The Wolves started better in the second half and thought they had the advantage thanks to an excellent shot from Romain Saiss, but VAR saw an offside. Then Podence forced Meslier to make another good save.

The Wolves took the Leeds away with a huge slice of good luck, as a weak shot from Raúl Jiménez received a massive deflection off the head from Kalvin Phillips to put them 1-0 ahead. Then Leeds got more of the ball as the Wolves fell back but never seemed to get a draw.

Now is the time to see each player and their performance. How can you always tell me how wrong I am @mightywhitespod or @ThruItAllLUFC On twitter.

INITIAL ALIGNMENT

Illan Meslier – Nothing to do in the first half except a good hit until injury time when he made a good save to deny Daniel Podence. He denied Podence again 10 minutes into the second half. No chance after the diversion for the Wolves goal. 7/10

Luke Ayling – Made very good progress in the first half, with a very hard card in the first 15 minutes. Quieter in the second half, like most. 6.5 / 10

Robin Koch – The first touches were excellent as he kicked the ball from behind, he stood out as excellent in the first half. A bad header that led Romain Saiss to find the net, but the VAR saved Leeds. Very impressive performance. 8/10

Pascal Struijk – Came in as a late replacement for Liam Cooper and was flawless until the Wolves goal. He slipped into construction for which I can’t blame him, but then he let Raúl Jiménez in too easily. 7/10

Stuart Dallas – Got on well with Jack Harrison. In the goal he allowed Jiménez to turn twice without making a challenge. 6.5 / 10

Kalvin Phillips – He did all the “Phillips stuff” in the first half, but wasn’t that great in the second half, where his passing seemed to be a long way off target at times. The bad luck of deflecting Jiménez’s shot, he didn’t need to go for it, but that’s instinct and difficult to prevent. 5.5 / 10

Helder Costa – He seemed dangerous from the start, able to beat his man well. He walked away from the game as he progressed and was quite anonymous when he was substituted. 5.5 / 10

Mateusz Klich – He appeared well in space and used the ball well when he did. I kept trying to get into good areas. 6.5 / 10

Rodrigo – He looked dangerous and had Leeds’ best chance in the first half but hit the goalkeeper straight. 6.5 / 10

Jack Harrison – Some excellent crosses from the left side and freed himself at the edge of the area in a couple of corners. As the game progressed, the level of his crosses decreased and he became less effective. 6/10

Patrick Bamford – Had one canceled early, correctly, for offside. He couldn’t get enough of the ball even though he kept racing. 6/10

SUBSTITUTES

Ian Poveda (for Costa, 71 minutes) – Not the impact we saw against Manchester City. 6/10

Pablo Hernandez (for Struijk, 75mins) – He caught the ball a lot and tried to initiate attacks. Some nice passes, but not much came of it. 6/10

Raphinha (to Harrison, 82 minutes) – Good to see him debut, but all we saw was a couple of crosses that missed their mark. N / A
