A charity appeal launched for this year’s Late Late Toy Show has raised more than 5.2 million euros.
The new RTÉ charitable fund, which was launched in association with The Community Foundation for Ireland, will be used to support children’s charities and causes across the country.
All funds raised will be distributed by The Community Foundation for Ireland in 2021.
Half of the money raised will go to the three Barnardos children’s charities, Children’s Health Foundation and Children’s Books Ireland.
The remaining 50% will be distributed as grants from the Community Foundation for Ireland to charities supporting children throughout Ireland.
Host Ryan Tubridy said the appeal was launched “to spread the magic of the Toy Show throughout the year to the children who need it most.”
“Every year at the Toy Show we are inspired by children across Ireland, with stories of hope, resilience and triumph over adversity. In this exceptional year, we have been touched by the generosity of the children of Ireland in caring for one another and the less fortunate in their communities, ”he said.
The Community Foundation for Ireland was also a partner in RTÉ Does Comic Relief, which raised just under € 6 million for non-profit organizations that provide key support to vulnerable citizens affected by Covid-19.
The Late Late Show has also helped raise another 6 million euros for charitable causes that have been promoted this season and last season.
The RTÉ Toy Show Campaign is open for donations online at rte.ie/toyshowappeal for the next two weeks.
