Organizers of the National Plowing Championship have said they plan to host next year’s event in Co Laois.
The venue in Ratheniska will host the National and World Plowing Championships and will be a four-day event.
Organizers say that despite the threat from Covid 19, planning for the event must begin now.
They are hopeful that it can continue if a vaccine against the virus has been found for next year.
This year’s event should have taken place this week, but was canceled due to the pandemic.
National Plowing Association CEO Anna May McHugh said: “It will be a great occasion if you can keep going.
“We have to look at it in a positive light and hope that there is a vaccine months before the event.”
The NPA met today with local landowners on whose lands the 2021 event will take place.
The association held an outdoor executive meeting to agree on the Ratheniska site as the venue for next year.
The event is worth tens of millions to local economies and next year’s event venue near Stradbally also hosted the championship for three years from 2013 to 2015.
