Kitesurfer who died in a tragic accident at locally named Dollymount Strand

The kitesurfer who died in a tragic accident at Dollymount Strand early this morning has been named locally.

Ger Fennelly, 39, struggled near Dublin’s picturesque North Beach shortly after 9 a.m. M.

Gardai, the Coast Guard and the National Ambulance went to the scene of the serious incident.

The Howth Branch of the Coast Guard said: “The Irish Coast Guard emergency operations center this morning at 09.14 received a call reporting a kitesurfing incident at Dollymount Beach and requesting assistance from the National Ambulance Service (NAS) and An Garda Síochána who were proceeding to the scene.

“The Howth Coast Guard unit responded quickly and together with NAS and paramedics from the Dublin Fire Brigade provided first aid care.

“The victim was transported off the beach by 4×4 Coast Guard to a NAS ambulance waiting on the Dollymount causeway.”

Unfortunately, the valiant efforts of the rescue teams were not enough and the experienced kitesurfer Mr. Fennelly was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body was taken to Mater Hospital where an autopsy will be performed.

A Garda statement read: “Gardaí was alerted to an incident at Dollymount Strand, which occurred shortly after 9 am this morning, Saturday October 31, 2020.
