Lightning struck twice in the city of Killarney, Co Kerry, after Lotto bosses announced that the € 9.7 million ticket was sold at a store that had another big win just days before.
Daly’s Supervalu sold the € 9,772,175 gold ticket just four days after selling a € 500,000 EuroMillions Plus prize.
The winning Quick Pick ticket was purchased from Daly’s Supervalu on the day of the draw and the National Lottery has confirmed that it has yet to hear from the lucky winner who has claimed the highest Lottery prize from Co. Kerry.
Speaking after receiving his second phone call from the National Lottery in a matter of days, John Daly, owner of the Supervalu business in Killarney with his father Jimmy, uncle Billy, and cousin Derek, said: “Honestly, I’m still in shock and disbelief!
“Lottery prizes are like buses: you wait more than 30 years for one and then two come at once!
“It really is a magical story for everyone in the community here in Killarney.
“It is the good news we all need at the moment and we are absolutely excited about these two winners, particularly the winners of the € 9.7 million, whoever they are.
“With the travel restrictions currently in place, it means that we have no tourists in the city, which makes it very special to know that one of our loyal local customers may have won this award,” he said.
“We heard the news on Monday morning that a store in Killarney had sold the lucky lottery ticket, but after having sold a grand prize so recently, there was no way we could have considered that it could have been us. time!
“It has been a difficult number of weeks for everyone involved in the store and all of our staff have been amazing, implementing the systems in the store to ensure the safety of our customers.
“This victory will give us all an incredible boost and we will organize a proper celebration to celebrate victory when all these restrictions have been lifted,” he added.
