Gorey boxer Niall Kennedy has had a chance to boost his career after securing a fight with Alen Babic in Newcastle in October.
The heavyweight, who is a garda in Wicklow, will face Babic, 29, an explosive Croatian boxer who has done light work with all four of his opponents thus far and is trying to climb quickly through the division ranks.
Babic secured emphatic two-round destruction from Shawndell Winters during Matchroom Boxing’s Fight Camp, the same month-long event that Eric Donovan fought in.
Kennedy’s career took a severe blow 13 months ago when he suffered his first career loss to American Devin Vargas.
A back injury contributed to that loss and a wrist complaint kept Kennedy out of the ring before Covid-19 struck.
This fight represents the biggest opportunity of his career as part of the undercard for rising light heavyweight star Joshua Buatsi against Croatia’s Marko Calic.
The undercard will take place on October 4 and will be broadcast on Sky Sports.
