The late Gay Byrne will be a part of this year’s Late Late Toy Show after his widow Kathleen Watkins offered Ryan Tubridy one of her prized Toy Show sweaters when he appeared on the Late Late Show last night.

He was speechless when she offered him one of Gay’s most beloved Toy Show jumpers to raise money for homeless charities.

She made the gift, having recently walked through Dublin city center, seeing the problem of homelessness first hand.

“It was really a surprise. I found homeless people everywhere, three and four people lying next to each other, huddled at the doors. It was really very distressing.

“We live in our comfortable houses with our comfortable beds and there are people who are really very bad, so I hope that maybe the sweater helps,” he said.

Ryan promised that the prized sweater would be used in a “meaningful way” to help the homeless.

In another part of the interview, Watkins revealed that she had been hospitalized multiple times since her husband’s death, but now feels “fine.”

“I feel good. I have my moments, I have had a few moments in the last month but I’m doing well just with the help of family and friends.

“They have been absolutely wonderful. I count my blessings all the time.”

He thanked the “entire nation” who wrote him letters, cards, notes and sent him Mass Cards after Gay’s passing.

“They are from the four corners of Ireland and beyond. We knew Gay was popular and loved, but we didn’t know how much, but we know now,” he said, then added: “During the three years he was so sick people stopped me. on the street, men and women, telling him we told him we love him … He was so nice and essentially Irish, warm, genuine, real and sincere. Everything was beautiful. “

He also told Ryan about Gay’s last days and how the family was able to spend time with him looking at his favorite sight.

“It was wonderful for us to have him at home for days and chat around the bed. We oriented the bed towards the lighthouse he loved,” she said.
