A file is being prepared for the DPP after Joshua Allen, son of television chef Rachel Allen, was arrested on suspicion of driving while intoxicated after a car accident.
Gardaí has confirmed that it responded to reports of a single vehicle collision in Shanagarry South, Ballycotton, Co Cork, at approximately 3.25am on Monday.
The incident occurred near the Ballymaloe Cooking School, where Allen was caught with more than € 22,000 worth of cannabis in August 2018.
There were no reports of injuries stemming from the car accident, which reportedly involved a € 60,000 Range Rover.
A Garda spokesman said: “Following the incident, a 20-year-old man was arrested for ‘driving while intoxicated’. He was taken to the Midleton Garda station and later released without charge. Investigations are ongoing.”
It later emerged that it was Allen, 20, who was arrested.
Allen, from Ballinamona, Shanagarry, was imprisoned for 15 months last February, prior to November 8, 2019, after it was discovered that he was in possession of more than € 22,000 worth of cannabis for sale and supply at the School internationally renowned Ballymaloe Kitchen in August. 2018.
Last November, he was given the opportunity to become an inpatient at the Cuan Mhuire rehabilitation center, where he was treated for his addiction problems.
Earlier this year, Judge Sean Ó Donnabháin was told that Mr. Allen had convinced his parole officer that he was a changed man.
The judge said that Mr. Allen had a “sad background” as he left school without any grades prior to his Junior Certificate and has not received any grades since. He noted that the accused had matured since he was in Cuan Mhuire.
Mr. Allen was granted temporary release from prison in June, with a number of conditions attached, including a curfew.
He was arrested last month on suspicion of drunk driving after being pulled over at a Garda checkpoint near Midleton.
