Joaquin Phoenix, who won an Oscar this year for his role in the film Joker, reportedly welcomed his first child with his fiancee Rooney Mara. They named the baby after Phoenix’s late brother, River, who died in 1993.
Director Victor Kossakovsky revealed the news at the 2020 Zurich film festival after the screening of the black and white documentary Gunda. Joaquín was an executive producer on the film.
Asked about Phoenix’s involvement in the film, Kossakovsky said, “By the way, she just had a baby … A beautiful son named River.”
River Phoenix, the star of movies like Stand By Me and My Own Private Idaho, died of an accidental drug overdose at age 23.
