Shamrock Rovers midfielder Jack Byrne has been named 2020 Personality of the Year by SSE Airtricity / SWAI.

The Republic of Ireland international played a key role for the Hoops, as the club won the Premier Division title and reached the FAI Extra.ie Cup final.

The short list for Personality of the Year contained six nominees: four coaches and two players.

Byrne Rovers manager Stephen Bradley finished second in the vote, while Finn Harps boss Ollie Horgan was third.

“It has been a strange year for everyone, but in many ways it has been one of my best years in football so far, so I am very happy,” Byrne said.

“The club as a whole deserves a lot of credit, but I think the manager has been amazing in the last few years. It’s a really special moment at the club and I just hope the fans can come back soon, and I’m sure it will be packed every week. “.

The gong goalkeeper of the year went to Byrne’s teammate Alan Mannus, while former St Patrick’s Athletic and Shelbourne player Conan Byrne won the Liam Tuohy Special Merit Award for his charitable work, including raising more than 13,000 € for the Irish Cancer Society in a walking marathon to all the League of Ireland grounds in Dublin, as well as organizing conversations between personalities and supporters of the League of Ireland.
