More than 3,000 graduates will formally complete their third-level education in a series of virtual lecture ceremonies conducted by the Carlow Institute of Technology, which began today.
The graduations coincide with the 50th anniversary of the university and follow one of the most challenging academic years during that time.
As part of the online ceremony, students have been listening to special recorded messages of encouragement and inspiration from, among others, Oscar-nominated animator and filmmaker Nora Twomey of Cartoon Saloon, as well as Dr. David Dempsey, co-founder of Salesforce Europe. where more than 1,800 are employed.
The rest of a total of 11 virtual events will take place over the next week.
Congratulating the graduates, IT Carlow President Dr Patricia Mulcahy said there had been “tremendous cooperation, innovation and generosity of spirit” at the university and its 10,000 students and staff since the pandemic hit Ireland.
“I look forward to the time when we can come together once more to celebrate their accomplishments and mark their accomplishments in the usual way: with handshakes and speeches; with pomp and ceremony; and most importantly, in each other’s company. Mulcahy said. said.
It also marked the 50th anniversary of the university and he hoped it would become part of a new Southeast Technological University.

IT Carlow’s governing body chair John Moore told graduates that they are about to join the institute’s global alumni of nearly 65,000 people, who will pursue careers around the world.
“In addition to its challenges, the world you graduate from presents as many opportunities as ever. Earlier this year, you, along with the staff of the Carlow Institute of Technology, demonstrated your ability to meet any challenge. The successful completion of your courses and their conferring today is a testament to that. “
He said that despite the differences between this year’s conferences and those of other years, it is still a special occasion for everyone.
“We do not need to be physically together to be collectively proud and celebrate their achievement, and that is what we are doing today. As a graduate of the Carlow Institute of Technology, you have an arsenal of attributes. Collectively and individually, you are equipped and capable of dealing with challenges.
