Irish Pubs Update: ‘Daunting Scenes’ Show Crowds On Grand Canal Quay For A Night Of Drinking Fun

A Dublin city councilor has criticized scenes from the south central city last night where groups gathered for a night of drinking fun, visibly and openly breaking Level 5 lockdown restrictions.

These were the images taken last night at Grand Canal Quay when crowds of people flooded the area for hours on end, what locals describe as a “nightly event.”

A source told Dublin Live: “It’s crazy what happens there every night.

“Hours of drinking and playing loud music and having fun, which would be totally acceptable if we weren’t going through a pandemic.”

“When the Ringsend natives tried to play bingo and have a few drinks outside their own homes last year, they were turned away.

“Like everyone else, the locals here have been affected by the shutdown and they are going to take a stand if something is not done soon.”

Sinn Fein’s local TD Chris Andrews told Dublin Live that these meetings are “unacceptable.”

The Dublin Bay South MP said: “It is really heartbreaking to see these scenes at the height of a pandemic.

“This is a residential area and what the residents have to endure is unacceptable.

“This is not a unique occasion and residents really need to be protected.”

He added: “The Gardai is doing everything possible, but the government must do more.”

Dublin Live has contacted Gardai about the incident.
