200 people crammed inside with no food and fresh pints still being served at one-thirty in the morning are just two of the shocking scenes Gardai observed in the rule-breaking Dublin pubs this weekend alone.
And a pub in northwestern Ireland has been told to close its doors immediately after a Garda raid detected “repeated” violations of public health councils.
Officials discovered a total of 11 licensed facilities in violation of COVID-19 regulations, amid a growing number of cases across the country.
And one bar was issued an immediate closure order after failing to comply with the guidelines despite “repeated commitment by the local Gardai to the licensee.”
Many pubs, including the boozer that served the lockdown order, were found to be not serving food when officers inspected them, and others failed to meet social distancing guidelines and one venue was operating as an illegal shebeen.
Gardai is urging the public to adhere to public health guidelines after making the discoveries “disappointingly” during a busy holiday weekend.
Deputy Commissioner for Surveillance and Security, John Twomey, said: “The vast majority of licensed facilities are operating in accordance with public health regulations.
“Unfortunately, even though An Garda Síochána has said it several times before, unfortunately it seems that it should be said again to some authorized establishments: authorized premises that do not comply with public health regulations are not only committing a crime, they are putting at risk to the health of its staff, its customers and its local community. “
In the last 48 hours, Gardai found a location, located in the Dublin region, with almost 200 customers inside and no food.
Another Dublin pub, inspected at 1.30am, was discovered with fresh pints drawn and no social distancing was observed.
In the southern region, four pubs were found to be in violation of public health advice over the weekend, including one in which customers were “observed in a group talking hugging each other” while unmasked staff watched.
In the north, two facilities were found breaking the rules, and one hotel was found to accommodate around 100 customers in its function room with no food served and more people drinking in a lounge on the ground floor.
And in the east of the country three breaches were found, with a shebeen with 30 people inside.
