Republic of Ireland minor international Ayodeji Sotona left Manchester United after the talented teenager turned down a new contract at the club.
The 17-year-old scored the winner’s goal in the FA Youth Cup quarter-final triumph against Wigan, but the forward will not be available for the semi-finals if the tournament is completed.
Sotona, who was reported last year as the club’s fastest player in training, has decided to leave United for new pastures, having failed to reach an agreement with the club.
It is understood that United offered Sotona a three-year professional contract, but the club found it prohibitive to talk about a five-figure weekly salary.
The 17-year-old’s desire to make an impact on the first team sooner rather than later was another complication, especially with players like Shola Shoretire, Noam Emeran and Dillon Hoogewerf competing to impress in a similar area.
Sotona, known as ‘Deji’, was born in Waterford and raised in Mullingar before joining the United academy. He is also eligible to represent England and Nigeria internationally, but has played for Ireland’s under-16 team.
Isak Hansen-Aaroen has also been added to United’s teen strike group, with the club confirming the signing of Tromso’s youngest player on Friday.
United have received international clearance for Barcelona’s Marc Jurado and Real Madrid full-back Álvaro Fernández, with Atlético de Madrid’s Alejandro Garnacho set to join them.
Manchester City’s Charlie McNeill is understood to be another member of the club. The starting fee of just under £ 750,000 could rise to £ 1.35 million if the first team add-ons are met.
