Ireland will face dire weather for the next few hours, with a warning that we are likely to see snow, sleet and even thunder tonight and Thursday.
Met Eireann predicts a horrible 24 hours for Ireland, with stormy rain and icy conditions as the thermometer dial dips below zero.
A spokesman for the national forecaster said it will announce widespread rains tonight, some of which will be “heavy and stormy with hail, turning to sleet or snow on high ground.”
Temperatures could reach minus 1 degree, with the coldest conditions in Ulster.
And there isn’t much respite tomorrow, with a “very cold day” ahead, according to Met Eireann.
There will be widespread heavy rains in the morning, as well as a risk of hail and thunderstorms throughout the day.
Some of these rains will take the form of sleet or snow, especially on high ground.
And temperatures could drop by as much as two degrees during the day, before things get even colder at night as frosts develop in Ulster.
Met Eireann’s latest forecast comes amid a weather advisory for the country that warns of “much colder” conditions for the rest of this week.
We are prepared for “hard and strong frosts,” according to a spokesperson, as well as “frozen sections” and winter rains.
The advisory notice, issued by Met Eireann Tuesday morning, has been in effect for the entire country since 4 p.m. today and lasts until midnight Friday.
And there is also a small craft warning today and tomorrow, with westerly winds reaching force six or higher on all Irish shores tonight.
For the remainder of the week, Met Eireann predicts that the weather will “remain cold”, before drier and brighter spells finally develop in time for the weekend.
