Ireland Weather: Temperatures to plummet as Met Eireann issues dire five-day forecast

Ireland will face some horrible days of weather this week, as temperatures will plummet in just a few days.

The meteorological chiefs anticipate that another week of heavy rain awaits us with the risk of flooding in some parts.

Worse, the mercury will drop almost to zero as we head deeper into winter weather.

Today we will see erratic rains and drizzle increasing from the southwest during the day.

It will be cooler in the morning, but is expected to become noticeably milder in the afternoon and evening with higher temperatures of 11-14 degrees.

Winds from the southwest will increase from cool to strong, maintaining a continuing risk of coastal flooding.

Tonight it will be wet with erratic rains or drizzle at times mainly along the Atlantic shores, but temperatures will not drop dramatically by 10-12 degrees.

However, meteorologists at Met Eireann predict that will change on Wednesday night.

One forecaster said: “On Tuesday night, the rain in the west will spread eastward across the country. It will be more intense and persistent in the western half of the country, which carries the risk of localized flooding.”

“A mild start to the night, but it gets cooler from the west with cooler temperatures of 7 to 12 degrees around sunrise. Quite windy to start with moderate to cool, strong southerly winds off the coasts, but winds are they will drift to the west and be mild to moderate overnight. “

They added that the weather will remain “unstable in the coming days, with colder conditions developing from the week.”

Wednesday: The rain will clear to the east during the morning and afternoon, with the development of sunny spells. However, the rains will continue from the west with the potential for some heavy falls, particularly in the western half of the country. It turns cool from the west into the morning with afternoon temperatures higher in the afternoon of 7 to 10 degrees with moderate to cool westerlies, strong in the coastal areas.

Scattered rains will persist through Wednesday night, but will decrease further north and west as the evening progresses. Lower temperatures of 2 to 5 degrees with moderate to cool winds from the northwest.

Thursday: A cool but largely dry and bright day across much of the country as persistent rains subside during the morning. However, the cloud will thicken from the west during the afternoon and evening, with rain and drizzle pushing toward the western areas from the Atlantic overnight. Higher temperatures 6 to 9 degrees with light breezes from the west, veering south later.

The rain will spread eastward across the country tonight, persistent and heavy at times in the west, but more erratic elsewhere. The lowest temperatures of 3 to 6 degrees occur early in the evening, but become milder at night.

Friday: Current signs indicate that rain will persist in most areas through Friday morning, but will clear to the northeast during the afternoon. However, spotty drizzle and fog will linger in some spots during the day. Higher temperatures of 10 to 12 degrees with moderate breezes from the southwest.

Additional perspective: Current indications indicate that it will remain unresolved until Saturday, with more bouts of rain and drizzle. However, drier and brighter intervals will develop on Sunday with more rain.
