IRELAND will be hit by “severe gusts”, heavy rains and flooding from the remnants of former Hurricane Zeta during a Halloween weekend storm.
Met Eireann issued a nationwide yellow state wind warning for Saturday, but experts warn that the improved alerts could be on the cards.
A series of “vigorous” Atlantic weather systems passing near Ireland will bring torrential rains, potentially damaging gusts, and surface and coastal flooding.
A nationwide advisory is valid from 9 pm today Friday to 6 pm Monday, but this advisory will be “refined and possibly improved,” forecasters said.
HERE WE GO AGAIN
Alan O’Reilly from Carlow Weather said: “We’re going to have a couple different low-system approaches from the southwest.
“The jet stream is coming in just over Ireland at the moment, so we have a couple of storms that will potentially develop and will follow near or over Ireland.”
“The exact detail is still a bit unknown in terms of the exact route these systems will take.
“But most likely we will see the first period of very wet and windy weather on Friday night, and that will bring very heavy rains across the country.
“But it could also bring in some very strong winds. That’s why the yellow weather warning that was issued from Met Eireann to the entire country for strong winds.”
“It is likely to be updated with several different regions, possibly updating or downgrading depending on the track of the system.”
WEST IS WORSE
The west is prepared for the worst of the weather.
Alan continued: “The heavier rain may clear for a while on Saturday, but unfortunately the winds will remain strong, and then there is a risk that another system will arrive later on Saturday night and bring another period of very wet weather and potentially very windy for Saturday night and Sunday.
“Certainly the West is always likely to suffer the worst. The south could also potentially be at risk depending on the route.
“It seems likely that the south and west will see the strongest winds, and potentially the southeast will also see some strong winds on Saturday and Sunday.
“And there are potentially very strong winds even on Monday, so we could actually see three days of persistent periods of wet and windy weather.
“There will be breaks in the rain at times, but unfortunately it looks very stormy from Friday night to Monday.”
24 HOUR HELL
Gavin Gallagher from Met Eireann said that each system arriving in Ireland has a difference of approximately 24 hours.
He warned: “We will have a very unstable weather streak from Friday night to Monday night, with three separate low-pressure systems still close to Ireland, bringing wet, windy and possibly stormy weather.”
“Each system has a difference of around 24 hours, the first impacts Ireland from Friday night to Saturday, the following Saturday night to Sunday, and the third later from Sunday to Monday.
“One of the depressions that will impact us will be the remnants of the former hurricane Zeta, which passed over the eastern United States at 3 pm on Thursday.
“There is a yellow wind status advisory in all areas for Friday night and Saturday. This advisory will be refined and possibly updated on Friday, with more advisories to be issued for wind and rain over the weekend.” .
UPDATE WARNING
Met Eireann’s wind warning is valid from 1 a.m. M. At 3 p. M. Saturday.
It says, “Strong-to-gale-force southerly winds will drift out of the west. Strong gusts are possible.”
And the advisory warns: “Very unstable weather will occur on Halloween weekend when a series of vigorous Atlantic weather systems pass near Ireland.
“Episodes of heavy rain will cause surface and river flooding.
“Very windy or stormy at times with some severe and damaging gusts possible.
“There may be some coastal flooding also due to the combination of low pressure, high tides and overland winds. High seas.
