Both Cork and Kerry will be drenched in heavy rain all day, as Met Eireann predicts more dire weather.
There is a yellow rain status warning for both counties from 9 am to midnight Sunday and is expected to fall as low as 40mm.
The rest of the country is expected to experience wet and windy conditions, but without warnings; however, a warning remains in effect.
A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Stormy with spells of sunshine and scattered showers to start. However, outbreaks of rain will soon spread from the southwest to all areas this morning.
“The rain becomes persistent with some heavy falls, particularly in the southwest, bringing the risk of local flooding here. Winds from the southwest will remain cool to strong in the southern counties and on the north coast, decreasing from mild to moderate elsewhere. Highs 10-15 degrees, cooler in the north and milder in the south. “
The weather forecast takes a turn in the early days of next week and freezing conditions are expected to arrive overnight.
Temperatures will drop as low as 0 ° C at night this week, so make sure you have your heating ready.
A forecaster from Met Eireann added: “Windy with heavy rains early in the week, turning dry and settled with good periods of sunshine midweek. Cold nights.
“Lows of 3 to 5 degrees Monday night.
“Lows 3-6 degrees in the north Tuesday night, 0-4 degrees in the south, with patchy grass frosts in protected areas.
“Lows close to freezing in the south Wednesday night, with frost forming with light winds.”
