Met Eireann has updated its weather forecast for the weekend and temperatures are now expected to drop below freezing.
Weather bosses are expecting conditions as cold as -2 ° C Saturday night with lows of -1 ° C Friday night.
Homeowners are advised to be prepared for the change of cold and to have the heat and fire ready.
A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “Tonight will be cold and predominantly dry, with frosts forming over long, clear periods. Isolated patches of fog can also form inland with light winds.”
“Minimum temperatures will generally be between -1 ° C and 3 ° C, the coldest inland. Temperatures between 5 ° C and 7 ° C in the southwest, where rain and drizzle will continue into the early evening.
“Tomorrow will be a dry day overall, save for a few scattered showers in Ulster in the morning.
“It will be a bright, cool day with sunshine and a moderate breeze from the north. Maximum temperatures of 11 ° C to 15 ° C, the mildest in the southwest.
“Dry, calm, cold and mostly clear Saturday night with lower temperatures ranging from -2 ° C to + 2 ° C. There will be some frost, along with fog and patches of fog.”
At the moment, the cold weather is not expected to last much longer than this weekend with milder conditions next week.
The forecaster added: “Changeable in the first days of the next with more unstable weather in the middle of the week.”
