Ireland weather: Met Eireann issues warning for ‘heavy rain’ and flooding in four counties

Met Eireann has issued a “heavy rain” warning that will hit four counties on Sunday.

The yellow status alert, which was announced on Friday night, will be in effect for Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo.

The warning will go into effect at 7 a.m. Sunday and will last until 9 p.m. M. From that night.

Up to 40mm of “heavy rain” is expected throughout the day, which can lead to flooding both on the river and on the surface.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country seems poised for a mixed weekend.

Heavy Rain

One forecaster said: “Saturday morning will be mostly dry with sunny spells for the most part, however it will be cloudy early in the east.”

“During the afternoon scattered showers will develop in the west, while the rain will develop in the northeast during the afternoon and will become persistent in the north and northeast during the afternoon hours. Higher temperatures of 9 to 13 degrees.”

The rain will get worse overnight on Saturday with Met Eireann warning that it will get “heavy at times” and bring the risk of flooding.

One forecaster added: “It will start wet in most areas with heavy and prolonged rains, leading to a risk of localized flooding.

“The eastern parts will begin to clear in the morning, however rain will persist in the west. Higher temperatures of 11 to 15 degrees in moderate to cool, gusty northwesterly winds, which will dim the northern light as the rain clears up. “
