MET Eireann has issued yellow rain and wind warnings, as Storm Alex will bring gusts of up to 100 km / h and possible flooding.
Yellow wind status alerts have been issued for six counties, while yellow rain warnings are in effect for 11 counties.
Storm Alex has passed over France to reach Great Britain and his remains will arrive in Ireland tomorrow.
The storm is expected to hit the country with strong winds, after hitting record gusts of 186 km / h on the French island Belle-Île-en-Mer.
COUNTY ALERTS
There is a yellow wind alert in Donegal, May and Sligo from Sunday from 6 pm to 9 pm and in Galway, Clare and Kerry from 12 noon to 10 pm
Met Eireann said: “Northwest winds intensified on Sunday with average wind speeds of 50 to 65 km / h and gusts of 90 to 100 km / h.”
There is another yellow rain status warning in Kildare, Laois, Longford, Wicklow, Offaly, Westmeath, Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo from Sunday 7am to 11pm
The national forecaster warned: “Heavy and persistent rains on Sunday with totals of 25 to 40 mm expected, totals higher in mountainous areas. This may result in flooding of some rivers, as well as surface flooding.”
TORRENCIALES WATERS
Meanwhile, Alan O’Reilly of Carlow Weather said the rain would arrive early tomorrow morning and move across the country and warned of heavy gusts.
The highest temperatures tomorrow will reach between 11 ° C and 14 ° C, as the national forecast expects the rains to become erratic and intermittent in the southwest, east and northeast later when Storm Alex passes over the counties.
The UK has already seen torrential rains causing more than 20 flood alerts as a result of Storm Alex.
More than a month of rain is expected to fall over the weekend.
The UK Met Office also warned of the risk of flooding and travel disruption, with road closures, public transport disruptions, difficult driving conditions and bus cancellations expected amid heavy rain.
