Ireland Weather: Met Eireann forecasts brutal change as snow hits as temperatures plummet to -3C

Snow could hit Ireland on Monday night as temperatures plummet after a week of sunshine.

While a mostly good weekend is ahead, Met Eireann believes conditions will start to change on Sunday night when a cold front hits our shores.

This will last for several days, and the “winter rains” are expected to fall mainly in Ulster and Connacht.

Sadly, temperatures will also drop to a frosty -3C on Monday night.

One forecaster said: “Another dry and mostly sunny day on Saturday with only a few patchy clouds developing at times during the afternoon. Higher temperatures of 11 ° C to 14 ° C, with light north breezes or variable breezes.

“Dry with clear periods, with some fog and fog developing. Icy patches can also develop locally as temperatures drop between -1 ° C and 4 ° C with variable light breezes.

“Easter Sunday will be dry in much of the country with the best sun in the south. It will be cloudier further north.

“Light rain or irregular drizzles will develop in Ulster and northern Connacht in the afternoon, extending further south overnight.

“Higher temperatures of 9 ° C to 14 ° C. However, they get colder during the afternoon as moderate breezes from the west drift to the northwest and cool down.”

But despite the good conditions over the weekend, it is the beginning of a new week in which conditions will worsen.

“Cold and windy with clouds clearing to the south to leave spells of sunshine and scattered showers on Monday, some turning wintry especially on higher ground in Ulster and northern Connacht.

“Higher temperatures of 4 ° C to 8 ° C in a bitter moderate to cool and gusty north wind.”

“That night you will see more frequent scattered rains in the north and west and it will turn winter, especially on higher ground. Frosts and icy patches will develop as temperatures drop between -3C and 1C with winds retreating towards the northwest and subsiding mostly light.

“The cold will continue on Tuesday with sunny spells and scattered rains, some wintry, however they will become more isolated as the day progresses. Highest temperatures of 4 ° C to 7 ° C in a moderate to cool wind from the north to northwest.

“The lowest temperatures of -3 ° C to 2 ° C generally on Tuesday nights, staying a little warmer along the western coasts with mild to moderate or variable western breezes.”
