Ireland will be hit by heavy rain, thunder and hail on the Friday ahead of a mixed weather weekend.

Temperatures are expected to remain mild for the next few days, but Friday and Sunday will unfortunately bring a lot of downpours.

Saturday will bring some rain, but it will remain mostly sunny with pleasant highs of 14C.

While things are looking pretty bad for Monday as well, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays appear to be dry with long, sunny spells.

Heavy rain in Dublin

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “There will be widespread rain this morning and afternoon with some periods of sunshine in between.

“Some rains will be heavy with a risk of hail and thunder, especially in Ulster. Most of the southern areas will dry out at dusk, but the rains will continue further north.

“Higher temperatures of 10 ° C to 13 ° C in moderate to cool, gusty winds from west to northwest.

“The rains will continue in the north and west areas tonight, but the rest of the country will be mostly dry. The lowest temperatures of 4 ° C to 9 ° C, the coldest in the southeast, where the skies will be clearer. Winds from the west will be moderate to cool and gusty, sometimes strong in coastal areas.

“Saturday will bring a mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. Staying cool and windy with the highest afternoon temperatures of 10 ° C to 14 ° C, with moderate to cool winds from the northwest.

“Some isolated showers Saturday in the northwest early evening, but otherwise it will be dry with clear gusts. Lower temperatures of 4 ° C to 7 ° C with mild to moderate northwest winds.”

But from Sunday night until Monday, things will get ugly again, with heavy rains dominating the proceedings.

The spokesperson added: “Sunday will be dry with spells of sunshine during the morning, but it will become more cloudy during the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 10 ° C to 13 ° C with mild to moderate northwest winds, retreating from west to southwest.

“The rain will move northwest early Sunday night and move southeast across the country overnight. Moderate to cool winds from the south to the southwest, sometimes strong near the coasts in the west and north. The lowest temperatures of 5 ° C to 9 ° C occur early in the evening.

“The rain will clear the southern and eastern areas on Monday morning and will be followed by spells of sunshine and scattered showers.

“Showers will be more frequent in the west and north. A cold and stormy day with cool winds from the northwest, strong near the coasts and maximum temperatures of 11 ° C to 14 ° C.

“Showers or longer periods of rain will move south across the country Monday night and it will continue to be windy.”

But luckily, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays they will be back in the sunshine, with temperatures mostly staying between 11C and 13C.
