Storm Bella is scheduled to hit Ireland on St. Stephen’s Day and temperatures will plummet to -2.
Met Eireann has issued a yellow status alert for all of Connacht, Donegal, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Limerick from 12pm on Saturday to 6am on Sunday.
It says: “Until Saturday afternoon, afternoon and evening, the westerly winds associated with Storm Bella (named after the UK Met Office) will reach average speeds of 50 to 65 km / h with gusts of 90 to 110 km / h.
“With the combination of high winds, high waves and forecast storm surge, there is a risk of coastal flooding. More updates will be released as needed.”
Met Eireann predicted it will be bright on Christmas morning, while clouds will pick up from the west later with a small drizzle.
Tonight there will be a breeze with scattered bouts of rain that will spread south over the country.
Temperatures will range between 4 and 8 degrees with cooling winds from the west to the southwest.
The arrival of Storm Bella on Boxing Day will bring more downpours and winds of up to 110 km / h.
It will get more and more windy on Valentine’s Day as we begin to feel the effects of Storm Bella.
There will be scattered bouts of rain and drizzle at first and some sun breaks.
However, heavy rains will develop in the northern counties in the afternoon, spreading across the country during the afternoon and evening, bringing a risk of localized flooding.
Heavy rains will clear to the south Saturday night and it will get much colder.
Clear spells and scattered winter rains will spread across the country before sunrise on Sunday and some ice will form in protected areas. There will be minimum temperatures of 0 to 4 degrees.
Sunday will be a cold and stormy day with sparkling spells and scattered showers, some of a wintry nature.
Sunday night will be cold with frosts and frozen sections in places with lower temperatures of -2 to +1 degrees. The rains will be long during the night, turning winter in places as strong as the northwesterly winds develop.
Monday is expected to be cold and windy with widespread rains, possibly winter on high ground with a risk of hail.
There will be higher temperatures of 5-8 degrees, but it will feel much colder due to the added wind chill factor in the strong, gusty winds from the northwest.
It will stay cold and stormy overnight with a mix of clear spells and scattered showers.
Another cold and stormy day is forecast for Tuesday with a mix of bright spells and showers, some possibly wintry but usually rain or hail.
