Met Eireanna is predicting a frigid winter turn as temperatures are set to drop to -3C this week.

It will be cold tonight with frost in some places and lows of -2 ° C are expected in Connacht and Munster.

And Friday will be the coldest night of the week with temperatures as low as -3 ° C in some places.

A forecaster from Met Eireann said: “The patches of frost and fog will clear during the morning to leave a cool, bright day with sunny periods, however scattered showers will increase over Connacht and Ulster during the afternoon and evening. “Tonight it will become mostly dry with only isolated showers to the west; otherwise a mix of clouds and good clear periods. Fog and mist will form towards morning with a light breeze from the west. they are developing with lower temperatures of -2 to +3 degrees, the coolest in Connacht and Munster.

“Thursday will be mostly dry and cool with fog lingering in some parts for much of the day, however occasional sunny spells can develop during the afternoon. Cool with highs of 4-8 degrees with variable light breezes.

“Another mainly dry but cold and icy night. A dense fog will develop in places with almost calm conditions. The lowest temperatures generally from -2 to +3 degrees.

“A cold day on Friday with frost and persistent fog in the morning. However, it will remain mostly dry, except for the rains in the northwest, with spells of sunshine during the day. Temperatures generally reach between 3 and 6 degrees in sunlight. east or variable breezes.

“The cold continues on Friday night with lower temperatures of -3 to +1 degrees. Mainly dry with clear periods but isolated rains will develop during the night.”

As we get closer to the weekend, it will stay largely cool and “more frost” is expected Sunday and next week.

One forecaster added: “A mix of sunny spells and scattered showers. A chilly start to the day will give way to slightly milder southern conditions with higher temperatures of 7 to 11 degrees with a light breeze from the east.

“Current indications are that it will stay a bit colder than normal for Sunday and into next week, with some more possible frosts. It will remain largely dry also with scattered rains.”
