It fulfilled Eireann’s low temperature warning for the entire country and runs until noon.
Temperatures will stay below freezing well into the day in many areas.
The Irish were warned to beware of slip and fall injuries on icy surfaces and dangerous driving conditions.
A thick cloud will bring spotty drizzle and light rain to the northwest this morning and this will slowly spread south during the day. However, it will stay dry for most of Leinster and Munster with some sunshine. Another cold day with highs just 1-4 degrees.
Tonight, temperatures will drop between +2 and -3 degrees with another widespread frost.
A cold start to Sunday with patchy fog that takes time to clear. A mostly dry day, but there will be a few drops of drizzle at times, especially in the west. It will be a little less cold than the previous days, with highs of 3 to 7 degrees, highs in the west.
A change is looming with the weather getting warmer and more unstable with rain on Monday, Tuesday and early Wednesday.
It will be drier and a little cooler towards the end of the week. Temperatures will rebound slightly above the January average as the winds head west.
Sunday night will be fairly cloudy overnight with more patchy drizzle in the west and north that will become more intense at dawn, but will remain mostly dry elsewhere. There may be some patchy frosts in the southeast, but less cold than the previous nights. Minimum of 2 to 6 degrees.
Monday will be cloudy with rains in the west and north in the morning that will spread to all areas during the afternoon with highs of 8 to 10 degrees.
Tuesday will be another cloudy and humid day with rain sometimes with highs of 7 to 10 degrees.
The rain will clear to scattered showers on Wednesday and will remain fairly cloudy.
Thursday will be mostly dry with spells of sunshine and only a few scattered showers in the west.
It is forecast to be mostly dry on Friday, but rain will come in from the west later in the day.
