Early weather models indicate that a very cold and quiet season awaits us as we head to Christmas Eve.
Meteorological experts Carlow Weather said it will become extremely unstable for the rest of this week with bouts of rain and strong winds.
And looking beyond that, they say things are going to have a drastic change.
They added: “The weekend will also see some rain, but also good dry spells.
“The weather model trends continue to show a cold and settled period as we approach Christmas Eve.”
Met Eireann predicts that this morning will start to dry out with sunny spells with more intense bouts of rain moving from the west with temperatures of 11 ° C.
Tonight it will be miserable enough with rain and overcast conditions overnight, but temperatures won’t drop too low, staying around the 8C mark.
Here’s Met Eireann’s long-term forecast for the weekend and next week:
tomorrow: “Friday will be humid again, with persistent rain in the morning, then rainier in the afternoon. A relatively mild and windy day with fresh, gusty southerly winds and afternoon highs of 12 or 13 degrees.” .
Saturday : “Windy with stormy downpours, mainly affecting western areas. Otherwise dry with sunny spells. The cool, gusty south winds will continue and it will be a cooler day than Friday, with afternoon temperatures from 7 to 10 grades”.
