Four counties saw a large increase in new coronavirus cases as the virus continues to spread across the country, new statistics show.
Dublin and Kildare were again the worst affected counties, with 58 and 20 new cases, respectively.
They were followed by Donegal and Limerick, with 14 new infections each.
Wexford, with eight, and Tipperary, with six, also saw notable increases.
In all, 16 counties saw an increase in the number of reported infections.
The latest full breakdown covers the period to midnight on Friday, August 28.
It comes after it emerged that the number of coronavirus cases worldwide has surpassed 25 million amid fears a second wave has hit Europe.
The latest figures come as India set a world record for new daily cases in the Covid-19 pandemic.
The latest data showed steady global growth as the epicenter of the disease shifts again, with India taking center stage against the United States and Latin America.
India’s single-day count of 78,761 new coronavirus infections on Sunday surpassed the one-day increase of 77,299 reported by the United States in mid-July.
The surge in the South Asian country brought the number of cases globally to 25,074,751.
The official number of coronavirus cases globally is now at least five times the number of serious influenza illnesses recorded annually, according to data from the World Health Organization.
Worldwide, there have been more than 840,000 deaths, which is considered a lagging indicator given the virus’s two-week incubation period.
That has exceeded the upper range of 290,000 to 650,000 annual influenza-related deaths.
