Alan Hughes has been suffering from “respiratory problems” as he talks about a recent health scare.
The past few months have been a whirlwind for Alan and her husband Karl Broderick, as the couple have struggled to secure funds for their annual Christmas panto.
Alan and Karl initially missed out on a grant, however it turned out that the Department of Arts and Culture had made a mistake and the lack of funds for the pantomime was due to a clerical error.

The annual panto has always been known as the ‘Panto Cheerios’, but an announcement posted yesterday revealed that the decision to terminate the partnership was made earlier this year.
Amid the stress of organizing this year’s production, Alan began to suffer from health problems.
The Ireland AM star told The Mail: “I was having trouble breathing, walking up the stairs I was getting out of breath.
“I could go for a walk, but going up any kind of hill or slope or something like that, I would literally have to sit down, my breathing had gotten so bad.
“I just thought, uh, that’s not right. So I went to the doctor and he said, ‘Look, you’re relatively fit, so I want to send you in for some tests.’
“I did a few and they were inconclusive so I had to go to the hospital for stress tests last week.
“Now I have to see a cardiologist because there are a couple of things that they are not happy with, so there could be something wrong with my heart.”
Alan, who is now waiting to see a cardiologist, admitted that he worries about his health, but is trying to stay positive.
He said: “It’s a bit worrying but I am of the attitude of, look, don’t worry about it, wait until you see the cardiologist and they will review everything with you and hopefully everything goes well.
“We’ll see what happens. I’m not going to drop dead today, hopefully!”
