An investigation is ongoing after a fire broke out aboard an Irish navy ship that was moored in Cork harbor.
City and county firefighters addressed the fire that broke out at LE Niamh (P52) just before 12:30 p.m. M. When I was at the Cork Dockyard for routine maintenance.
“While a full investigation into the cause of the fire will be carried out, it is believed that it began in a storage compartment adjacent to the site where the engineers were performing the cutting work,” said a Defense Forces spokesman.
He confirmed that there have been no reports of injuries to naval service personnel or Cork shipyard personnel.

Four members of the crew were on duty aboard the ship when the fire was detected just before 12:30 p.m.
They carried out ‘firefighting first aid’ to contain the fire and prevent its spread to the rest of the ship.
The alarm was raised with the fire control in Limerick and several units of the Cork County Fire Service took over the incident at 12:26 pm
The boat was evacuated and the scene was handed over to Cobh firefighters, who were backed up by four units from the Midleton fire brigade.
Firefighters boarded the ship and began tackling the fire below deck.
The Cork City Fire Department dispatched a van to the scene later with additional supplies of foam, then dispatched a unit to provide further backup in the incident.
The fire has been controlled. It is understood that some firefighters will remain on the scene for another hour or two to monitor the ship.
