There will be a big change for the more than 225,000 people still claiming the Covid-19 Pandemic Unemployment Payment on September 17.
If they have not returned to work by then, a large number of them will have their welfare payments reduced.
The maximum rate of € 350 per week will drop to € 300, if the person earned more than € 300 before the pandemic.
There will be a new average fee of € 250 for anyone who earns between € 200 and € 300.
The lowest rate of € 203 for anyone who earned less than € 200 before the coronavirus crisis remains the same.
Recipients of the pandemic unemployment payment will see the impact of these changes on their bank accounts on Tuesday, September 22.
Individuals do not need to contact the Department about their earnings.
The Department has access to this information from the Revenue Commissioners and will contact PUP recipients prior to these changes to inform them of their new pay rate.
Another important change is that the suspension of certain termination rights for terminated employees expires.
It could have a huge impact on workers and employers.
In the last seven days, 9,265 people have closed their claim for Pandemic Unemployment Pay.
Some 6,256 will receive their final payment today.
Social Protection Minister Heather Humphreys said: “It is encouraging to see more and more people close their Pandemic Unemployment Pay as they return.
“The drop this week is mainly attributed to people returning to work in the Education sector.
“I want to acknowledge the enormous effort put into by everyone involved in this sector whose hard work and determination have allowed our schools to reopen after being closed for so long.”
