Important details emerge about Shane Duffy’s Celtic contract

An important detail has emerged about Shane Duffy’s Celtic contract with the defender who is currently on loan from Brighton and Hove Albion for a season.

The sad reality of modern football is that a club the size of Celtic cannot compete financially with much smaller clubs that play in lucrative leagues across Europe. As a result, most professional footballers find it more attractive to play a relegation match in the Premier League rather than donning the famous hoops.

However, Shane Duffy is not one of those footballers. From the looks of it, he could have easily opted to stay in the Premier League had he wanted to, as there was no shortage of suitors when it emerged that Brighton and Hove Albion were willing to let him leave the club on loan after losing his place in the first team.

The Republic of Ireland international decided to move to Parkhead to be part of the 10IAR campaign. Growing up as a Celtic supporter, Duffy will know what that means to fans.

However, the defender is only on loan at the moment and some fans of his club do not seem to be happy. One of them posted a tweet in which he claimed Brighton and Hove Albion were paying him £ 25,000 per week, even when he plays for the Hoops. That is to be expected though, as Scottish clubs can’t pay Premier League money or so we think.

Duffy himself took to Twitter to confirm that Celtic pays your full salary:

This is a massive reveal and a great show of ambition on Celtic’s part. Duffy is reported to have a salary of around £ 40,000 per week. If the Hoops pay him that, he’s probably the highest paid player on the current team.

However, this is fantastic news as it shows that Peter Lawwell and company are taking this season seriously. Celtic have a chance to lift a historic 10IAR and must go as far as possible to make sure they put the strongest team possible on the field.

The addition of Duffy has certainly strengthened this team and solved many of the club’s problems at the rear, resulting in four clean sheets at the trot. And if you’re making a lot of money for that kind of impact, then you deserve it.
