Alexis Sánchez claims that he wanted to return to the former club Arsenal after his first day of training at Man Utd.

Sánchez joined Man Utd in a partial trade deal from Arsenal, with Henrikh Mkhitaryan moving the other way. But the forward struggled immensely at Old Trafford with José Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, scoring just five goals for the club in 45 appearances.

That period of poor form saw Chile’s talisman being handed over to Serie A’s powerhouse Inter Milan to join the growing contingent of former Premier League players under Antonio Conte.

Sánchez made enough of an impression on the Italian club to sign a three-year deal at Inter worth £ 130,000 a week after Man Utd. allegedly paid him £ 9 million to terminate his contract.

And now the former Man Utd forward has described how bad his experience was at Old Trafford in a video on Instagram.

Sánchez said: “I want to tell you about my time at United, about many things that have been said that made me look bad.

“Before going there, I had an agreement with Manchester City, but it didn’t work out and I had the opportunity to join Manchester United. It was something nice for me, as a child I really liked the club.

“I ended up signing without having much information about what was going on with the move. During the first days that I was with my new colleagues, sometimes there are things that you do not realize until you arrive.

“After the first training I had, I realized many things. When I got home I asked my family and my manager: ‘Can my contract be terminated and can I go back to Arsenal?’

“They were laughing at it, but I really felt like some bad things were happening at the club that I didn’t like.

“We were not united as a team. The journalists spoke without knowing it and I was upset, even former players who did not know anything about how things were but blamed me.

“But as a player you need the team to be united, to be a family, and we weren’t. And you could see it on the field, but since they had to blame someone, they always blamed me.

“Sometimes I didn’t even play or I only played 20 or 30 minutes but it was always my fault.

“Of course I know I could have played better and I didn’t, I got injured maybe because I wasn’t happy and that would affect the team, but according to them it was always my fault and I would feel bad. He was not happy with the whole situation. “

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer came in to replace Mourinho at Man Utd and Sánchez gives him a special mention for allowing him to leave to join Inter Milan on loan.

“There was a game against West Ham in which I was not even selected and that had never happened to me before, it bothered me a lot,” said Sánchez.

“I couldn’t understand how he had gone from being one of the best players in the Premier League five months ago to not even playing.

“After that, I came home, I was really upset and sad, and the next day I did double training. That’s how I am and I try to do my best and football is what I love.

“Next season we get a new coach [Solskjaer]I spoke to him and told him that I needed the opportunity to leave and Inter was an option.

“He needed fresh air, he said there was no problem with that and I left. I only have kind words for United for giving me the opportunity.

“I’m upset that things didn’t turn out the way I wanted. If the team was more united and we were more like a family, if everything was more positive, I think we could have achieved better things. I say all this because I have learned from this as a player and as a person.

“Thanks again to United and I’m sad because I would have liked to win trophies and make the fans happy.”
