Huge amount of drugs, cash and six imitation firearms seized in a raid in the center of the city

Gardai has seized almost 100,000 euros worth of drugs along with a huge sum of cash and six imitation firearms in a raid in the city center.

Gardai from the Division’s Central Drug Unit discovered drugs worth 94,000 euros at a residence on Gardiner Street on Monday night.

During the operation, the six imitation firearms and more than € 30,000 in cash were also seized.

The search was carried out after Gardai stopped and searched a car in the Fredrick Court area.

A Garda spokeswoman said: “At approximately 8.15pm on Monday evening, the Gardaí stopped and searched a vehicle at Frederick Court, Dublin 1.

“The driver, a man in his 40s, was found to be in possession of a quantity of cocaine, Alprazolam tablets and a significant amount of cash.

“He was arrested and taken to Store Street Garda Station, where he was detained under section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.

“During a follow-up search operation on Gardiner Street, Gardaí seized 4 kg of suspected cannabis herb with an estimated street value of € 80,000 and suspicious Alprazolam tablets with an estimated street value of € 14,000. Now all drugs will be sent for analysis.

“Six imitation firearms were also seized during the search operation and approximately € 32,000 in cash.”

A woman, in her 20s, was arrested during the follow-up search and taken to Store Street Garda Station, where she was detained under section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Since then she has been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of the Public Ministry.

Since then, the man has been charged in connection with this matter and is due to appear before the Criminal Justice Courts on Wednesday morning at 10.30 am.
