The HSE says there is evidence that Covid restrictions are working, but warned that Ireland’s health systems are “only two to three weeks away from being invaded.”

Dr. Henry said there are signs that the restrictions are successfully suppressing the deadly disease, but cautioned that there is still “a lot to worry about.”
Ireland has recorded fewer than 1,000 cases for six of the past seven days after levels rose to around 1,200 new infections daily.
The 14-day incidence of Covid-19 has fallen below 300 per 100,000 inhabitants and the seven-day moving average has fallen to 42%.
‘SHOTS OF HOPE’
Dr. Henry told Newstalk Breakfast: “Certainly there is a lot to worry about, but yes, there are buds of hope and they imply that perhaps the steps that everyone is taking and all those efforts that everyone is doing across the country are just beginning. to take effect.. “
But he warned that health services are still unclear.

However, the HSE expert revealed that cases have not yet decreased in the 65+ age group due to a delayed suppression effect.
65+ CASES STILL HIGH
He said there is a lag between the increase in cases in the 18-25 age group and the critical 55 and 65+ age group.
Dr. Henry added: “The only caveat I would say is that although we see the onset of falls in all age groups, that does not apply to those over 65. That is where the disease has its greatest impact.” .
He explained that infections in that age group will take longer to fall similar to other numbers.
On the suggestion that elementary school children wear masks to school, Dr. Henry said the HSE “is always considering new measures” but that nothing will change imminently.
More than 50 disinfection products, some of which are used in schools, have been recalled due to safety concerns.

Last night, the Health Department announced 866 new cases of coronavirus and six more deaths.
There have been a total of 1,902 Covid-19 related deaths and 60,297 cases of the killer virus in Ireland.
