THE GOVERNMENT HAS reported high levels of compliance with Covid-19 restrictions, but raised concerns about sporting events and holiday shopping.
Government agencies met yesterday at the Forum of Government Regulators to discuss compliance with regulations, with bodies such as the Health and Safety Authority, the Workplace Relations Commission, and the School Inspection, all reporting high levels of compliance. of the companies and institutions that have been inspected.
Currently, there have been more than 22,000 inspections since the restrictions went into effect, with more to be done in the coming days.
In a statement, the government praised both companies and citizens that are complying with the restrictions, calling their efforts “extraordinary.”
Gardaí continues to inspect pubs and restaurants, with 22 additional alleged violations reported as of Dec. 1. There have also been 21 alleged infractions by commercial premises.
This brings the total to 517 Covid-19 related prosecutions.
Despite the high levels of compliance, there are still areas of concern, particularly around sporting events ahead of the All Ireland Hurling final between Waterford and Limerick.
“Ahead of a high-profile sports weekend, particularly for the GAA, the importance of supporting your team in a safe way was highlighted: fans and the hospitality industry must fully adhere to public health guidelines,” the government said in a statement.

It was also reinforced that people should look to buy during off-peak hours as well as buy individually. Face masks are now a must-have in all busy outdoor spaces, as well as indoors in retail settings.
Neither should events be held indoors, and restaurants and pubs should be asked not to hold any events within their facilities.
