A fire has been contained in Sligo and asbestos material at the scene has been muffled.
The fire in a garage adjoining a row house on Larkhill Road broke out in the early hours of this morning.
A hazard warning remains in place as the roof contained low-level asbestos.
The Sligo Fire Service was called to the scene at 5 am and Gardaí was also present.
As a precautionary measure, due to low levels of asbestos material, and pending an inspection by the Health and Safety Authority, a small number of houses were evacuated.
People living within 150 meters of the house are asked to keep their windows and doors closed as a precaution due to asbestos.
Sligo Fire Service personnel remain on site and await the arrival of a specialized company to carry out a clean-up operation.
Larkhill Road remains closed to traffic and local detours are in place.
