An organization campaigning against the creation of a firm border says it is considering a series of actions against the British government’s UK internal market bill, including a legal challenge.
The Border Communities Against Brexit (BCAB) group says it plans to intensify its opposition to British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s proposals in the next week.
Damian McGenity, a senior member of the organization, said: “We thought that some of the more sensitive issues had been resolved in the Withdrawal Agreement made by the British government with the EU. But now Boris Johnson seems ready to back down on his word.”
He told RTÉ News that a “green wall of opposition” involving influential voices in continental Europe, the United States and Ireland, north and south, will be required to prevent the British government from backing down on what was an international agreement.
McGenity also confirmed that the BCAB group will soon erect a new series of billboards along major roads with a strong message about the British government’s plans.
He said the organization is considering a variety of options in its renewed campaign, including the possibility of mounting a legal challenge to the British government’s proposals.
In the past, the BCAB organized a series of demonstrations in the border areas and organized a series of public events.
He also held a rally in Stormont, urging Northern Ireland politicians to play their part in preventing a hard border.
