Google will offer 46 apartments it acquired as part of the Bolands Mills development in Dublin city center to key workers in the local area at a reduced price.
The tech giant said it would work with an approved nonprofit housing agency to rent the apartments. It is intended for those who work in positions considered critical to the well-being of the community, including nurses, teachers, frontline service workers, and public safety employees.
The housing agency, which will be chosen from a short list, will take care of all stages of the process, from choosing tenants to maintaining the apartments. Google staff will not be able to apply.
But prospective tenants will have to wait another time for their houses. The Bolands Mills scheme was scheduled for completion in the first quarter of 2020, but will now not be ready until the end of 2022.
Google said its goal was to create an environment “that reflects the diverse nature of the Grand Canal area.”
“Google has been established in Ireland for the last 17 years and the vibrant and creative character of the local community has taken root in our culture at our EMEA headquarters. We are committed to ensuring that the development of Bolands Mills has a positive impact on our community and offering these 46 apartments to key workers in the local community is an exciting part of that, “said Jennifer Kelly, Google’s Global Vice President of Real Estate. labor services.
“Our hope is that through the development of Bolands Mills, we support the Grand Canal District to thrive as an active, creative and innovative area with the community at its center. We are working with our neighbors to make sure Bolands Mills meets their needs and provides business, commercial and leisure facilities that benefit the people who live here and those who commute to work here every day. “
Deal with Nama
Google struck a deal with Nama to buy the three iconic buildings that were then known as Bolands Quay in 2018 in a deal worth around € 300 million, and then obtained permission to build a bridge to link two of the towers of Offices. The development includes 28,000m2 of offices, 46 apartments, cafes and cultural space. Bolands Mills will also include 40,000 square feet of public access mixed-use space, with a combination of retail, recreation and dining options, and a dedicated 5,000 square foot community and cultural space.
The project has experienced some delays, including repair work required in part of the development after developer BAM identified a problem.
Last year, it was reported that Dublin City Council had chosen not to purchase four or more apartments on the site for social housing, but would instead purchase three units elsewhere “within the electoral area.”
