Tottenham Hotspur missed an opportunity to climb to third place in the Premier League and close the gap with leader Liverpool.
The Spurs equaled the Reds’ result with a 1-1 draw against the Wolves in a game in which they took an early lead.
Tanguy Ndombele’s opening goal could have been the call to arms for a dominant display by the Spurs. Instead, he saw José Mourinho’s team retreat into its shell and allow the Lobos to apply considerable pressure.
In the end, it paid off, with Romain Saiss heading home with a late draw and, in the end, the Wolves were unlucky enough not to snatch a winner in the final minutes.
It was an exhibition that frustrated many Tottenham fans, as well as some experts and former players.
Gary Lineker was one of them. The former Spurs forward and Game of the Day host confirmed on Twitter his belief that the Wolves deserved the draw and criticized the Spurs’ lack of offensive momentum.
No doubt @Wolves they deserve that tie. The Spurs have offered very little.

Mourinho’s style of play has been a cause for concern among Tottenham fans, who believe his negativity could in fact hamper Tottenham’s quest for the Premier League title.
That fear was never more apparent than in this game against the Wolves, where the Spurs should have tried to go for the jugular but ended up looking like the prey.
