Gardai shot a knife-wielding thug this morning after threatening officers with a gun.

The incident occurred in Clonee on the Dublin / Meath border with Gardai still at the scene of the incident.

It is understood that the Gardai Armed Support Unit was called to the scene in an incident that lasted several hours.

The man was rushed to hospital from the place where he is said to be seriously injured.

A Garda spokeswoman told Dublin Live: “Gardaí is currently at the scene of an incident that occurred this afternoon on Wednesday 30 December at approximately 1pm in the Manorfield, Clonee area.

“A Garda firearm was fired during the course of the incident.”

She continued: “A man, details currently unknown, is being treated by paramedics.

“No further information is available at this time. Updates to follow.”
